On Sunday (June 2), Mama Hov, Gloria Carter, joyfully exchanged vows with her girlfriend Roxanne Wilshire as they walked down the aisle. The star-studded celebration was graced by none other than JAY-Z and Beyoncé, who were there to honor and support their beloved family member. Among the esteemed guests were Beyoncé’s closest friend Kelly Rowland, renowned actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry, the charismatic host of Good Morning America, Robin Roberts, and Corey Gamble. Surprisingly, the Kardashian/Jenner clan was absent from the festivities.

During the 29th GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards in Los Angeles in 2018, “Smile” received a Special Recognition award. On behalf of JAY-Z, Ms. Carter graciously accepted the award and delivered a heartfelt speech that touched the audience.
Following an introduction by Robin Roberts, Ms. Carter expressed her gratitude and thanked various individuals during her acceptance speech. She shared the moment when she revealed her true self to her son, Ms. Carter also explained her reasons for not fully disclosing her identity to others, but she highlighted the transformative moment when she met her then-partner, who showed unwavering support by sending her an encouraging kiss during her speech.
“Here I am. I’m loving. I’m respectful. I’m productive and I’m a human being who has a right to love who I love,” she said in closing. “So everybody — just smile, be free. Thank you and God bless.”
