Nicki Minaj‘s husband Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, tried to clear his name from New York’s Sex Offender Registry after shocking evidence came to light, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

Petty faced a setback in his efforts to remove his name from New York’s Sex Offender Registry. Despite claiming that he was never informed about a 2004 hearing, which could have allowed him to challenge his status as a medium-risk sex offender, he ultimately withdrew his lawsuit against the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services earlier this year.

Petty, who was in prison for different crimes from 2003 to 2013, is currently facing challenges. When he was 16 years old in 1995, he served four years in prison for a first-degree attempted rape charge. The person who accused him was Jennifer Hough. Petty argues that these past events put him in a difficult position when it comes to opposing the requirement of being listed in the registry.

The government strongly responded, dismissing Petty’s claims as “meritless.” They provided a transcript of the hearing as evidence, indicating that Petty was indeed present during the proceedings.

The government stated that Kenneth Petty was present during the SORA hearing and had legal representation. According to the government, Petty’s counsel confirmed that he did not object to being designated as a level 2 sex offender. The government further emphasized that Petty acknowledged his identity during the hearing and his counsel explicitly mentioned that he did not contest his level 2 sex offender status.

Shortly thereafter, Petty’s legal team submitted documents to the court, indicating their decision to withdraw from the case. They argued that due to Petty’s younger age at the time, it was possible that he had a lapse of memory regarding the events in question.

During that period, Petty’s legal team expressed their perspective to the New York Daily News, stating that “We were just going according to his statement, what he’s telling us, that he wasn’t present. He still says that he wasn’t there and maybe someone is putting this together just to get him. I don’t think that he purposely lied to us. I just believe maybe he forgot,”

In 2021, Jennifer Hough, who was a victim of Kenneth Petty, filed a lawsuit against him and Nicki Minaj. She accused them and their associates of harassing her in an attempt to make her take back her accusations. Hough claimed that they even offered her $500,000 to keep quiet, but she turned it down.

Recently, Jennifer Hough dropped all the claims she had made against Nicki Minaj. However, her lawsuit against Kenneth Petty is still ongoing.
