The Weeknd previewed a new Playboi Carti collaboration at Cannes Film Festival this week, where he premiered his new HBO show The Idol.

On Monday, May 22, as the Canadian hitmaker and his co-stars Lily-Rose Depp and director Sam Levinson arrived at the festival, the unreleased song could be heard playing on the red carpet in France.

The bouncy song, which is reminiscent of The Neptunes’ late ’90s/early ’00s vibe, has vocals from both The Weeknd and Playboi Carti.

The first two episodes of The Idol, which will debut on HBO on June 4, were received with a standing ovation lasting more than five minutes.

The episodes “shocked” Cannes with “revenge porn photos of bodily fluids on Depp’s face, masturbation with ice cubes, nightclub-owning scam artists and vile Hollywood sycophants,” according to Variety.

In January 2022, The Weeknd released Dawn FM, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and sold around 148,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week.

Most recently, the singer released a new track with Future called “Double Fantasy” in April as part of original music for The Idol.

He also released a remix of his 2017 single “Die for You” with Ariana Granda in February after it gained resurgence on TikTok.
