Travis Scott reaffirms his bold stance with the release of ‘UTOPIA’ while maintaining his record-breaking dominance, as his latest album achieves platinum status once again.
As reported by TMZ, Travis Scott’s album has surpassed one million sales since its release on July 28th. A significant contributor to UTOPIA achieving platinum status is Travis Scott’s accomplishment of selling the highest number of vinyl LPs for a rap album.
The album achieved a major accomplishment, selling 93,000 vinyl copies in a week, making it the biggest week of vinyl sales for a rap album in Nielsen history. This broke its own previous record.
Furthermore, Travis Scott recently surpassed a Spotify record that was previously held by Drake. He now holds the record for having the highest number of monthly listeners as a rapper on the streaming platform.
Chart Data reported on August 17 that Travis Scott, holds the No. 1 spot on Spotify with a record-breaking 74.945 million monthly listeners. This is the highest number of monthly listeners ever on Spotify.
Some other notable rappers who have achieved the highest peak of monthly listeners on the platform include Eminem, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West, among others.
La Flame has set numerous records in the past year. In 2022, during his performance in the United Kingdom, he surpassed BTS’ record for the highest merchandise sales.
During his series of sold-out concerts at London’s O2 Arena, Travis Scott achieved a remarkable feat by selling over $1 million worth of merchandise.
This achievement surpasses the previous record set by the K-Pop supergroup BTS. They had generated just under $1 million from merchandise sales during their Love Yourself World Tour performances in London back in October 2018.
The merchandise that contributed to Travis Scott’s record-breaking sales was specially created for specific dates in August 2022 at the O2 Arena.
The collection included hoodies priced between £100 ($122) and £125 ($153), T-shirts ranging from £45 ($55) to £75 ($92), and hats that were sold for £45 ($55) each. Fans reportedly lined up for hours before the show to get their hands on the merch.
Regarding UTOPIA, the eagerly anticipated album made its debut at the top spot of the Billboard 200 chart, achieving significant first-week sales.
As reported by Billboard, the album achieved a total of 496,000 album-equivalent units. This included 243,000 units from on-demand streams (equivalent to 330.68 million streams), a massive 252,000 units from pure album sales, and an additional 1,000 units from TEA (track equivalent album) sales.
With this accomplishment, UTOPIA secured the third-biggest week for any album in 2023 and the largest for any Hip Hop release. Its vinyl sales were also remarkable, reaching 55,000 copies, the highest for a rap album since tracking began in 1991.
